Gold leaf technique

The gold leaf technique, also known as gilding, consists of applying thin sheets of gold to surfaces such as wood, metal, canvas, paper, or even glass, creating a luminous and precious effect.
This technique was used by the great masters of sacred and Renaissance art, such as Giotto and Fra Angelico. In Byzantine art, gilding was synonymous with divine light.
But its use was not limited to religious art: Baroque craftsmen and decorators also used gilding for frames, furniture, and luxury objects, transforming ordinary materials into precious works of art.
About the masterclass
The gold leaf masterclass is a unique experience that allows you to discover and master one of the oldest and most fascinating artistic techniques. During the course, participants learn how to transform ordinary surfaces into precious, luminous works of art using extremely thin sheets of gold.
The course includes:
- Introduction to gilding: history, materials, and traditional tools of the craft.
- Surface preparation: wood, canvas, paper, and other supports.
- Application of gold leaf: basic and advanced techniques, working with light and enhancing details.
- Finishing and conservation: how to protect and enhance the finished works.
The gold leaf masterclass is not just about learning a technique, but also about experiencing the artistic process. Each participant will have the opportunity to create objects or small artworks, developing patience and precision, and take home a unique creation that shines with its own light.
Masterclasses can be organized on any day of the week, excluding Saturday and Sunday, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Two-to-one and small-group gold leaf masterclasses are organized for friends or family members who enroll together.
The cost of materials varies depending on the technique and the type of work. For this reason, materials are not included in the course price and must be paid directly to the instructor.
